DSC00803

It has been a while since I have updated, but it seems that everyone I talk to has their hands full, as kitten season is in full swing.

This weekend was our last big event for the month of June for our fee waived adoptions with the ASPCA and Fresh Step, and it was a great time as usual.

A very special girl was adopted this weekend. Callie finally found HER home after a very long wait. Callie was housed at animal control since February, and was rescued by NCHS a few short weeks ago. This weekend, a family came in, and had an instant connection with this sweetie. They took some time at Petsmart to bond, and decided that they could not return home without her. We are all so excited for Callie, and all of the kitties that found homes this month.

We are looking forward to our future promotions. We will be doing a July promotion for some very special felines, so keep your eyes open for our next big event, and your new best friend!

Rory is a Riot! June 14, 2011

DSC00683DSC00682

Rory is one of Lorelai’s little blue kittens, and she is Oh-So-Spunky!

Little Rory is about 5 weeks old, and she is the outcast of the group. While the others are tucked away for a nap, Rory enjoys exploring. Nothing seems to startle this little doll [other than the camera flash, causing the smile to the right]

Rory has beautiful Aqua eyes, and a gentle touch. This sweet girl will start searching for her forever home in a couple of weeks… Could her home be with you?

If you would like to adopt Rory, please feel free to fill out an online adoption form by clicking here: Adopt me! and she will be ready to go to her new home after being spayed in approximately 2-3 weeks.

***UPDATE*** Lorelai, Sookie, Paris, and Lane have been adopted! Rory is still available.

Thank you for everyone who donated to Lorelai (Formerly known as Maybelle) and her sweet little kittens. We pulled them early yesterday, and got them over to the vets office, and they came into their new foster home at lunch time today.

I DSC00745absolutely adore this girl, it only took a few minutes for her to steal my heart. Sweet Lorelai is so happy to be free of her cage, and allowed to roam around my office. She gulped down her food, and went over to take a nice nap.

This precious girl is so skinny, to the point that you can feel every bone in her poor little body when you run your hand down her back. We will certainly get her plumped back up, and back to being a happy little princess.

My little Lorelai is a great mom, and seems to always have a watchful eye on her kittens [from left to right: Rory, Sookie, Paris, and Lane] and what a beautiful bunch these little ones make!

These babies are going to be with mom for a couple more weeks, and then they will be in search of their forever homes.

Another HUGE thanks to all who helped her out of the shelter!

You will fall in love with kC! June 9, 2011

KC***UPDATE*** KC has been adopted!

Sweet KC is the brother to Grady and Max featured below. These little ones were lucky enough to have been born in foster care, and not in the shelter where mom, Reba, previously resided.

We pulled a very pregnant Reba, and just knew that she was going to burst at the seams on the way from the animal control to the shelter. Fortunately for us [and her] we made it to the our vet with no kittens being born.

Later that week, while in foster care, Reba gave birth to 4 orange little boys. One sibling [Tank] has been adopted, and is now living happily in his forever home.

Mom was just adopted as well [which we all know is a rarity for this to happen before the kittens are all adopted] by a very nice family to be a companion kitty… And then there were 3. KC, Grady, and Max are still in search of their forever homes.

I’m crazy about calliope June 6, 2011

Filed under: Second chance cats needing homes,Uncategorized — The.Second.Chance.Kitten @ 10:18 pm

calliope2calliope***UPDATE*** Calliope has been adopted!

calliope1

As you can see, I am crazy about Calliope (ka-LYE-ah-pee) what an absolutely gorgeous, and equally as sweet baby! Her green eyes have a fascinating amount of understanding behind them…

Calliope is about a year old, but is a bit calmer than most her age. Calliope would love nothing more than a nice warm lap to cuddle up in, and some affection from a human that she can call her own.

I think that Calliope would adjust well in her new home, and this little love does seem to do well with other nice kitties.

A HUGE thanks to our friends at the ASPCA and Fresh Step for hosting the fee waived adoptions for adult cats 6 months and older for the month of June. We are hoping that this enables us to find good, loving, forever homes for some of the great cats in our NCHS foster care.

If you think that Calliope could be the fit for you, you can come meet her during the week at the Help Spay Neuter Clinic at 12 the Crescent in Newnan, GA

You can also meet Calliope at our adoption events at Petsmart in Newnan, GA on Sundays from 12:30pm- 3:30pm or to adopt Calliope, Click Here: Adopt Me!

Could you help kiara find her home? June 6, 2011

Filed under: Second chance cats needing homes,Uncategorized — The.Second.Chance.Kitten @ 9:42 pm

kiara1

kiara2

I would like to introduce you to a crowd favorite— Kiara! Sweet Kiara was rescued from Coweta County Animal Control [GA] in the 11th hour, as many others have been. She was found as a stray, but surely this girl was once part of a family.

Kiara has really blossomed, and is a really special friend. It does not take long to earn Kiara’s trust… Just look at those soulful eyes and her almost checker-board face.

Kiara has a waived adoption fee for the month of June- Thanks to our friends at the ASPCA and Fresh Step. Of course we will make sure that she goes to a good and loving forever home— Never to end up at the shelter again.

Oh-My-Goodness-Grady! June 2, 2011

Grady3

Have you ever seen a face so sweet? Grady is the sibling of little Max and sweet KC. These 3 were born at their foster mom’s home.

The mom to these 3 sweethearts was rescued from Coweta County Animal Control, and was very pregnant. We were on our way to the vet, and we were sure that she was going to pop!

Fortunately, Mom (Reba) was able to hang-in-there, and did not have her kittens until nearly a week later. These 3 were lucky to have been born in foster-care and not in the shelter where so many little one’s succumb to illness every week.

Please consider adopting 2 (or even 3!) of these sweet babies. If you would like to meet Grady, KC, or Max, Please Click here.

Velcro and Thumper June 1, 2011

Thumper and velcro

“Uh-Oh” says it all!

Thumper [left] and Velcro [right] had some fun today while their foster mom was working. Thumpers face seems to say it all “I know…I know… not good”

Velcro [right] seems to have the just busted look, but hey— Looks like they enjoyed themselves!

Thumper and Velcro were rescued early last week from the Floyd County Animal Control facility, where they were scheduled to be put down the next morning. Their foster mom just loves them, and is excited to find a loving home for these 2 sweet guys!

Thumper is a cute little white and tabby bob-tail kitten, and Velcro is tabby and white, and Oh-What-A-Face!

Wonderful Willow (Adopt Me!) June 1, 2011

Filed under: Second chance kittens needing homes,Uncategorized — The.Second.Chance.Kitten @ 3:46 pm

Willow***UPDATE*** Willow has been adopted!

This precious little girl is Willow. Willow is another of the rescue kittens scheduled to be put down in Floyd County. Unfortunately, Willows time was up before we could raise enough for her sponsorship. The good news is that they put her and the other 7 on hold for us, which rarely happens at an animal control facility.Through the help of our WONDERFUL donors, we were able to pull enough funding together at the last minute for this little orphan family.

Willow loves to jump and play, but what she loves even more is food! This little girl will topple over her sister Talia and make a clumsy attempt at reaching the food dish first… She is a charmer, and you can’t help but love her enthusiasm.

Willow and [Sister] Talia are both is search of a home to call their own, with people to love them. If you would like to meet Willow, please fill out an application at NCHSrescue.org or email NCHSvolunteer@yahoo.com with any questions.

***UPDATE*** Stewart has been adopted!

Stewart is a handsome fella, and loves to lounge around. Little Stewart is about 8 weeks old, and was rescued along with Talia and Willow from Floyd County animal control.

Stewarts picture had a way of speaking to me, and though he is a tabby [and much harder to get adopted because people call him plain] he is extraordinary! He has the personality of a friend who has known you your entire life. There are no strangers to Stewart- Only friends.

Stewart is careful to stay away when the other kittens are rough-housing, as he is smaller than them… but what a cutie!

Stewart has been neutered, and is up to date on all age appropriate vaccinations. Stewart is ready to find his new family, and start living his life. To meet/adopt Stewart click here: Meet Me!

To sponsor an unwanted kitten such as Stewart, please consider a donation. Nothing is too small. Please click here to donate: Feed Me!

Too good to be True- Talia May 31, 2011

Filed under: Second chance kittens needing homes,Uncategorized — The.Second.Chance.Kitten @ 3:16 pm

SONY DSC ***UPDATE*** Talia has been adopted!

My ‘Picture Perfect’ Talia is the sister to Willow, both rescued from Floyd county animal control at the last possible minute. Who could harm a face so sweet? Talia is the more reserved of the two sisters, she is very intelligent, and seems to know exactly how you are feeling. When you are happy, she is happy. When you worry, you can see the worry on her sweet little face.

Talia is the perfect little cuddle bug, and would love to keep your lap warm!

Talia and [sister] Willow are both looking for a family to come and love them. They can be adopted together (2 for the price of 1!) or separately.

Red, White, and Cobalt Blue May 31, 2011

SONY DSC

***UPDATE*** Cobalt has been adopted!

Cobalt is such a sweet and playful kitten. The sad reality for him and his sister Penelope [adopted] was that they were picked up by Floyd County Animal Control. Floyd County is a rural area with a very low spay and neuter rate… This means that during kitten season, as it is now, they are BURSTING at the seams with kittens every week.

My handsome Cobalt was scheduled to go to another life the next morning. A friend of mine with a huge heart and I bailed on our day jobs to go on a rescue mission 2 hours away to Floyd County and save this little guys life [Along with 7 others rescued that day] We rushed the entire way through Atlanta trying to make it to the shelter on time. For this was his last chance…

Cobalt and his sister, Penelope, were saved along with 6 others that afternoon, and they show more gratitude than you can imagine capable. Cobalt is the best playmate, a hefty eater, a brilliant personality, and an overall GREAT baby!

Cobalt is still in search of a family to love and cherish him. He is up to date on all age appropriate vaccinations, and is scheduled to be neutered this week. If you would like to meet Cobalt, or foster an unwanted kitten, please go to NCHSrescue.org and fill out an adoption or foster application. For every kitten that goes to a new, loving home, a space is freed up for another unwanted kitten to get their second chance.

Getting Started May 31, 2011

I have pondered starting a blog for quite some time now… I want everyone to be able to see things through my eyes if they so choose. I started in rescue only a year ago, and it seems to feel like an eternity.

My first dog growing up was a rescue from the local animal control. I received him as a gift from my father on my 6th birthday, and I asked him why I could not have a fluffy white dog, The cute kind that you see on TV. My parents convinced me to give this one a chance, and he became my best friend. I was an only child, and the companionship that he provided me with was something that I would have missed out on completely if I had gone for the fluffy white dogs like you see on the commercials. Fritz was my best friend.

My Fritz led a long, happy, loved life… All because of a second chance.

My family and I decided two years ago to adopt another dog, and we fell in love with a one-eyed sweetheart named Jesse. Seeing his sad story is what got me looking at the websites of all the unwanted pets. Both of these dogs that I loved so much were at a time unwanted. Both the best companions you could ask for.

I independently rescued a shepherd mix from the local high-kill animal control, and she was adopted within a month. I was so happy. I had helped to save her life.

I have always loved cats and dogs, but I stumbled across a website one day during my day job, and I could not get the pictures out of my head. I had reached a ‘Gone but not Forgotten’ page from a local group, and as I looked into the eyes of the tiny kittens, I sat at my desk and cried.

I had to have cried for nearly an hour, and at that point my decision had been made. I wanted to help… I wanted there to be even one less on this horrific page. I was appalled, and it sent me into action.
